I decided to take literally 5 minutes and empty as much of a shelf of books as I could. Over half of the shelf is now emptied of books that I will not read or have read and will most likely never read again. Most of these are romance books that have been given to me or that I have picked up at garage sales, etc. A couple are old text books used when the boys were small (the science book is from first grade - they are both in high school now) and need to go. I am almost afraid to see the multitude of books left in the shed that are waiting to be gone through.
As I go through and delete certain items from my home and life, I am being sure to set aside anything that I might want to keep for one reason or another. I realize that shrinking down to fewer possessions is not something to do all at once so am going slowly and carefully to be sure that I will not be left with a sense of loss, but with a sense of empowerment that being released from the weight of stuff will bring.
